Embarking on a cruise is exciting, but sharing a floating home with thousands of new, not so close, friends, requires a little common sense etiquette. Here are some tips to help ensure a more pleasant voyage for all concerned:
1. Be Punctual
Arrive on time for embarkation and excursions to avoid delays for everyone. Don't be the star of a YouTube video showing people watching their cruise ship sail away without them!
2. Respect Personal Space
Be mindful of others in common areas, keep your voice down and don't crowd elevators. A little extra elevator tip...allow passengers to get out before you try to get in.
3. Dress Appropriately
Follow the cruise line’s dress code, with casual wear for daytime and smart casual or formal attire for evening events. Swimwear is for the pool area only, unless wearing a cover up.
4. Dining Etiquette
Stick to dining times, use serving utensils at buffets and be considerate of tablemates when sharing tables.
5. Pool and Deck Behavior
Don’t reserve deck chairs with belongings, shower before swimming and always properly supervise children.
6. Quiet in Cabins
Keep noise levels down, close doors gently to avoid disturbing neighbors and don't run up and down hallways.
7. Courtesy in Common Areas
Arrive early for shows, don’t save seats and dispose of trash properly. Again, don't be those folks who walk into a show 10 minutes after it begins and try to sit down front.
8. Respect Crew and Staff
Be polite, patient and always show gratitude for their hard work.
9. Health and Safety
Practice good hygiene, follow health protocols and report any observed health hazards.
10. Environmental Respect
Dispose of waste properly, avoid littering and respect local wildlife during excursions.
By following these simple tips, you'll help contribute to a smooth and enjoyable cruise for everyone. Happy sailing!
